The Endless Riverways
Traits
size: infinite - the Riverways extend in all directions, crisscrossing back and forth. Some have the theory that the Riverways are in fact one and the same. Their child, Sozuchi, the closest creation has to an expert on them, neither knows nor cares. They are home, and that's all that's important to him.time factor: 10,000 to 1. Every external minute spent in the plane is equivalent to ten thousand times as long inside the plane. To most mortals, no more than a few months will pass before they live out their lives, should they happen to stay there. Of course, they are not welcome there by its master, who does not willingly share his home with those not born in it. Also, there is no air for them to breathe, so long-term stays are difficult to manage. Normally, no more than a few minutes at most pass to those who travel within.
mutability: subjective. Various beings find that the plane behaves differently. To Sozuchi, it is freely morphic. He can alter it in any way he wants, limited only by his vast imagination. The plane is not quite sentient, but it does know of its eldest child, and responds to its will unquestioningly. Tsuwari finds himself also able to freely manipulate it, but if it comes to a conflict between his will and Sozuchi's, the elder will win out. The two have never had any conflict though, over the plane, both preferring it just the way it is. The River Serpents experience the same freedom on the small scale, but cannot effect more than they can see at once. To the other beings born there, it has limited mutability. They can create minor changes in their immediately surrounding area. However, it takes an effort of will to do so and skill to master more than a small portion at once. To all others, it is static. Although it is possible to swim there, even another god cannot alter even a small portion of this plane without putting forth the will to rewrite reality. Those not capable of ignoring the laws of the universe with their mere will cannot so much as scoop water into a bag in there. Even mortal and epic magic is not strong enough to change things within. The water will flow around them, but be left behind when they leave.
gravity: non-existent. There is no gravity. All things are at zero gee. Suspended in an ever-moving fluid, of course.
magic: all spells with the water or cold descriptor are extended, maximized, and quickened. all spells with the fire descriptor are impeded. It takes a caster level check of 20 + (spell level*2)-1 to cast fire spells. The place is so aquatic that all magics that are based off it are greatly aided. The opposing element is very difficult to manipulate. It is actively opposed by the ambient world. Mages must struggle to accomplish the simplest fire spells. All of this assumes that the spell can work underwater to begin with.
lighting: varies. There is no one source of light, but there is ambient lighting over much of the plane of varying intensity. Some places are even completely dark. They often are inhabited by the most terrible of the nameless horrors.
alignment: strongly chaotic aligned.
energy: water-dominant
Role-playing
The Endless Riverways is separate from reality as mortals know it. It is what became of the water portion of the elemental chaos, which cleared out of this reality and left behind the Void. Sozuchi has no clue exactly where he goes when he goes here, he just knows that like calls to like, and he created a connection to here with his blood from his severed tail, which he formed into the Dragon Ring Tail.
As to the Dragon Ring Tail itself, it serves as a conduit to the Riverways, and also allows the master of the Ways to bring forth their blessing to the world. Sozuchi uses it to enter the Riverways. He or any other god who is aware that they exist can travel there without it, but he prefers to enter through his own tail. It deposits him in a random location, instead of him having to choose where. Mortals who so wish to can likewise travel there through planar magic, but they cannot physically reach it. They can, however, travel to the world-sized Dragon Tail Ring, and from there enter the Riverways.
