The Croc'Chep are the secondborn of the Children of Sozuchi. They are formed from the mighty crocodile to provide the first two Old Ones with children to nurture. They are a calm race that values skill in the hunt above most things. They are the largest race of Chept, standing from seven and a half to eight and a half feet tall. They are powerfully muscled all over as well, their strength aiding them in the hunt.

The Crocs hold an interesting place in Chept society: they are highly respected for their prowess with weapons and skills as hunters, especially in the water. Their hunting skills are only rivaled by that of the Cats, but in the water even a Cat'Chept is outmatched. Although they hold a place of respect for their skills, they are not prone to strong convictions or feats of leadership, and thus rarely achieve great fame for their deeds. Nevertheless, at the end of the day, the whole tribe is grateful for the game they bring down.

The Crocs are some of the most reserved among the Chepts. They tend towards having no strong opinions about much of anything, and are often neutral. They are normally part of the working class within the tribe, their skill with the hunt often being their primary contribution to the tribe. Tribes with a strong Croc population rarely lack for food, and they tend to have more people with the free time to pursue the magical arts. However, their slower and heavier builds leaves them slowing a tribe down, and if a tribe must leave quickly, they are often left behind.

The single word that best describes the Crocs is BIG. They are incredibly large among the Chept, and everything about them supports this fact. Their jaws are large, like those of a crocodile. Their dense musculature is masked bu their thick hides, but none would ever accuse them of being weak. Their physical power is not easily hidden.

+2 Constitution, +2 Strength, -2 Dexterity.

Medium as medium humanoids, Croc'Chept have no bonuses or penalties due to size, but see Powerful Build below.

base land speed: 20ft, swim speed 40ft The Crocs' thick hide slows them down considerably, although they have a certain grace in the water that belies their large size.

Low-light Vision Crocs see twice as well as humanoids in the dark, and can see normally under conditions of starlight, moonlight, and other dim illumination.

+2 natural armor Their incredibly thick hides protect them from most scratches, although it does impair their agility.

+10 bonus on swim checks made to perform a perform a special action or to avoid a hazard

Powerful buildL The physical stature of Croc'Chepts lets them function in many ways as if they were one size category larger. Whenever a Croc'Chept is subject to a size modifier or special size modifier for an opposed check (such as during grapple checks, bull rush attempts, and trip attempts), the Croc'Chept is treated as one size larger if doing so is advantageous to him. A Croc'Chept is also considered to be one size larger when determining whether a creature’s special attacks based on size (such as improved grab or swallow whole) can affect him. A half-giant can use weapons designed for a creature one size larger without penalty. However, his space and reach remain those of a creature of his actual size. The benefits of this racial trait stack with the effects of powers, abilities, and spells that change the subject’s size category.

+4 bonus on hide and move silently checks while in the water The Crocs are not particularly graceful on land, but can be quite stealthy underwater.

Level adjustment: +1.
